Welcome to PAFlog CUL & IDS 3

Hey everyone! Welcome to the PAFlog CUL & IDS for July intake 2010 Group 3.

This blog allows you to give comments and share ideas about our class.Every once in a while I will be adding articles, pictures and sometimes videos that you can comment about. This is a great way to participate in our class discussions even when we aren't in class.

Here are some basic rules:

1. This blog remains a safe haven for students to share their ideas. DO NOT INSULT, PUT DOWN OR MAKE FUN OFF people on this blog.

2. Respect the rights of your friends to have an opinion. If you do not agree with their ideas let them know respectfully and explain why you disagree.

3. Always use your official name in your i.c. NOT a nickname or online name. i.e. Weng Kit NOT loverboy92

4. Your comments can be light hearted but remember the aim of this blog is to share ideas and opinions on your lesson in class. So please try to focus on the lessons. If you have something funny that's related to the topic to share with us, by all means share it.

5. Vulgarity is not permitted on this blog So no swear words.

6. Racist comments are not tolerated on this blog and will be considered grounds for expulsion from the blog.

If we are in agreement to all these ground rules then we can definitely dive in to this project and hopefully by the end of the semester we can have a good body of work that reflects our thoughts and ideas about various topics.

  1. hello KEITH! this is Raymond here.. still feel kinda weird calling my teacher with his name. hah!

i'm going to give opinion about the story which is from my class (group 3) vuvuzela - the fashion hero. In my point of view, some part of she, the fashion hero makes me feels like she is not a hero. although there are many arguments about whether he/she should be classified as a hero or not.Of course for me, i think that she is somehow a bit abnormal.. for example, having mirror in the whole island in order to see her own "beautiful" face..? this kinda of character will only be seen in fairy tales like CINDERELLA, the evil witch.. besides that, something like "fashion disaster" will need a hero to take action? for me, i think that people have their right on wearing whatever they like as long as it is comfortable for them. perhaps, in her own thought she thinks that she is actually helping, but is everyone thinks the same way?? we doesn't need a "hero" to controls what we are wearing right?
In other hand, i think that this story line is very creative as compare with other hero story. i like the part where she sets her motto "save the relationship, save the world", and also the part where the writer mention about her only weakness.. because, i totally agree that no body is perfect and everyone will have their own weakness.. including superman which is the kryptonite. The last part of it, the writer also included the moral value of the story. Not bad, but still i won't like a hero like this.. ^^

  3. regarding the vuvuzela heroic story keith I think it was some creative work.. at first keith I did ponder to myself because the storyline was rather weird... a fashion hero..but i realise that most of us have been conformed to the same thinking pattern that a hero was be someone who has certain powers to save the day well i think most of us perceive heroes the way holloywood shows us..so this particular group should be commended for their creativity to think out of the box..i really appreciate their work

  4. Well, I'd have to agree with Raymond, sure their "hero" had weaknesses,a cool motto and their was a lot of creativity put into it, but honestly I don't really see how that passes off as a hero...I mean,a hero that helps "fashion victims"?..To me, that doesn't really pass of as a damsel in distress calling for help...and mayb the story cud have been better if they explained how the hero became a fashion hero..That wud have been a interesting,& mayb a bit funny...-Kieran
