Group 1's Mutant High

All the students were trapped. They were tied to a pole and trapped in an invisible force field while 20 other ordinary humans who lived in Jeff’s neighborhood were trapped in another force field. Kronos smirked as he said, “ Choices are what defines a person, Jeffrey. Would you sacrifice your fellow mutants for the weak humans you admire so much? Or will you become my apprentice and save both the mutants and those weaklings?” Jeffrey took a deep breath and answered……

24 hrs earlier….

An alarm clock flies out the window. That’s normal in the life of our impatient and temperamental hero. He gets up sluggishly and drags himself to the study-cum-dinner table, covered with fast food wrappers and empty drink containers. “ Wake up you fatty!!! Let’s go!” shouted a voice from the outside of the fatty’s room.

It was none other than Steven, who as it turns out is already tall but had the ability to extend his body to great lengths like a rubber band. Jeff (here onwards referred to as Fatty) and Steven made their way to school in a rather relaxed manner after all Fatty was a complete slob. Anyway when they reached school, they met Daniel who arrived at the scene with a *poof*. “Hey Jeff, hey Steven” greeted Daniel as he magically appeared in front of the both of them. “ Ah our Fatty has a name now it seems” Said Steven. “ “ We have sports right now, let’s head to the field” Said Daniel.

Multiple sporting activities were happening on the field at that time. Fatty and company decided to walk through the field because their class was on the other side. Suddenly an arrow flew right in front of Steven and hit a tree. The arrow came from the school’s biggest prankster Dev, known for his supper human reflexes and speed, he always felt the need to humor himself and everyone else with his pranks. “Aw I shot the wrong arrow, the one I wanted had a bag of dog poop in it!” Dev said with a laugh. Steven was furious and stretched his arms all the way to dev but couldn’t punch or grab him because Dev was just too fast. Suddenly a bolt of lightning strikes the ground in front of them. “ Cut it out you two!!” “ Jeffrey, Steven and Daniel, get to your class before I write down your names in the disciplinary book” commanded Wilbert the head prefect, who has the ability to manipulate lightning. The three of them nodded and continued their walk to class.

Mr. Feng, the history teacher begins class and according to tradition, 30 minutes after Mr Feng’s class starts, all the students begin to yawn or fall a sleep. Actually it’s not the student’s fault; it’s just that Mr. Feng tends to unintentionally use his power which makes people sleep. As Mr. Feng continued to teach Fatty noticed the students in the class slowly slip into unconsciousness, suddenly he blacks out.

Jeffrey wakes up with a headache and finds that his hands and legs are bound to a pole. All the students are trapped in an invisible force field while 20 other ordinary humans who lived in Jeff’s neighborhood were trapped In another force field. Alvin(Kronos) smirked as he said, “ Choices are what defines a person, Jeffrey. Would you sacrifice your fellow mutants for the weak humans you admire so much? Or will you become my apprentice and save both the mutants and those weaklings?” Jeffrey took a deep breath and answered……”I choose to FIGHT!!!!!!”

Kronos summoned a furious monster Scylla!!! Jeffrey breaks the pole and everyone is released. Steven, the rubberman tied the monster and Dev fired some shoot at the monsters head from his bow. “ It’s not working” Dev cried out. “Buy me some time” Wilbert shouts!! A thunderbolt is growing in his hands. Meanwhile Dev continues shooting and Steven tightens his grip. It seemed like forever but Wilbert cried “Move out!!” and Steven loosed his grip as Dev the speed demon quickly pulled Steven to safety. Wilbert quickly fires his thunderbolt. “Agh!!!!” the monster is dead.

Kronos witnessing the battle shouts “ Time for the ultimate ….Fire Fart!!!” Turning his butt towards our heroes a fire ball begins to emerge!!! Quickly Dev hauls a huge tank of water to Jeff. Jeff with his amazing strength throws the water at Kronos and in an instant the battle is over. With Kronos down, drenched by the liquid force.

Tied up by Steven, Kronos hears the police sirens in a distance. It’s Daniel the teleporter who in forms the police. Kronos is caught and sent to prison. The gang unties their school mates. They’ve saved the day!! The next day they are awarded the title of the schools best students. The best in a school of mutants.

  2. It's somehow like the Harry Porter's magical school. Somehow it portrays the extraordinary ones gather and are being separated with the normal human beings.(which same as typical heroes stories) Is it a better way of learning for them compared to going to normal schools like us?

  3. But don't you think that maybe all of us are special and have our own abilities in our own way?

Yes of course we cannot run fast of have superman strength but we each have talents that bring something to the community right?

Maybe the question we should ask ourselves is what do we have? Maybe a skill or a talent. What can we do to benefit others with the talent?

  4. Normally not all of us will show our talents or can be said as fully utilise.. Well, it's still going to the same point, different abilities shown person are graded as better ones and being seperated from the others, such as ranking, position held, classes, marks and so on. Although everyone is asking for fairness but yet no one can really define the word of justice.

  5. Hmmmm that's an interesting thought. You are referring to the fact that some talents abilities seem more valued than others. However consider the following. What we have been learning about so far comes from understanding Character, Personality and Values not just ability and talent. While abilities and talent are liked by most people character and values are what make people who they are it's a part of one's personality. You can be good basketball player but that doesn't mean you're a good person right?

  6. the story really reminded me of the movie 'Sky High', about a school for children with super powers training to be superheroes.

    sorry, just visiting from Grp.2!

  7. the story is bringing out an important message.
the outward appearance of a hero doesnt matter...in real life people and communities are idolizing mighty and famous people when there is a heroic nature in each individual but we do fail to realise that..example jeffry was fat and his power was he was strong. in real life a fat individual will be stronger than a skinny bone..hence all of us have some kind of talents that will make us heroes but are we ready to believe in ourselves is up to us

  9. i think that think story lets us know that actually heros are build with different character, size etc. people usually call a person as a hero because he did something noble or achieved something that is beyond a normal human being did. i kinda agree with KEITH, people might be consider as a hero in a field (e.g sports, politics etc.) but it doesn't mean that this makes you a good person in the sense of personalities don't you agree?

heros tent to be tested in making a tought desicion.. like in spiderman, there is a secene where he have to choose between his loved one and the poeples both are in danger.. so as in this story.. jeff will have to choose between his friends (mutan) and also normal human being. but both of them are choose to not sacrificing both and fight against the evil.

  10. I watched the movie 'Sky High' before too.I think that if there' a big population with supernatural ability in the society, its necessary to have a special school for them.As they study in those specioal school, they will feel that they are less special and they won't be acting in an very arrogant way compare to if they are studying with ordinary people. Moreover, if there is any quarrel, fighting and bullying in the school there will be teacher(or people with authority like the prefect in the story) that have a greater power to stop them and preventing things to get worst.Just think about if there's nobody able to stop a people with extraordinary power when he lost his temper,he might accidentally killed someone and the hero will become zero.

  12. In the real world, people DO value certain talents more than others. For example in stereotypical American shows the cheerleaders and jocks are always more popular than math geeks.Geeks have talents but are always looked down upon. Movie stars are also paid way higher than scientists trying to discover a cure for cancer.

I agree with Chen Jian Cheng. The school should also be a place where those with powers learn not to bully ordinary people just because they have the powers.Just like J.K Rowling's magical world, where using magic in front of muggles is illegal.

  13. i think that every superhero stories written should include the hero's weakness. It is more interesting to watch how they face difficulties and how they solve it rather than always watching them win. With the weakness stated, it is more logical as most superheroes are human and human is not perfect. For example, Superman is afraid of kryptonite stone. That's the part where most viewers want to see how he overcomes the situation. Just like in real life, people with phobia(example of weakness) should find a way to overcome it. Knowing our own weakness and trying to overcome not only help ourselves but can also help others indirectly as we will not burden others to help us. By doing so, we can be a better man and may eventually contribute to the society. For instance, one can give motivation talks and publish a book on how to overcome a certain problem. Improve ourselves first then improve others. This is what i think a hero should be.

  14. I quite agree with you all all the way throughout the discussion above. Yea, extraordinary ones are meant to be studying with the same gang as there will be some one who can control them. So, what we have discussed in the lecture cant be a real statement where we mentioned that they are above the law. They still need something or someone to control them so that they behave well.
However, as min hong choon commented, heroes aren't that perfect in every story or legend but yet we humans always eager for perfection and thats why here the "heroes" appear in this world. Like the history of countries, they never record negative stuffs in it but all the good ones^^thats the way we human record things~
